If you Nordic Walk, you burn 20% – 40% more calories per hour than you’ll use if you walk without poles.
Using around 400 calories per hour, Nordic Walking is a much more efficient form of exercise than walking without poles, employing the use of most muscle groups of the upper body, including arms, back and abdominal muscles as well as the lower body.More Information
Nordic Walking provides the ideal exercise environment for anyone who hates the anonymous, individualistic tone of indoor gyms and exercise classes. We walk in small groups of up to 12 walkers and an instructor, so our classes have an intimate, friendly feel.
You’ll work hard in an NWEK class, but it’s also a social, relaxing affair, with lots of opportunity to chat with other walkers, or simply to soak up the beautiful Kent countryside that becomes our “green gym” for the day.More Information
Nordic Walking is recommended as an ideal exercise activity for those suffering from skeletal problems such as rheumatism, arthritis and osteoporosis.
Although low impact in nature, Nordic walking also provides a vital load-bearing function, which encourages increases in both strength and calcium deposition, both key components in the maintenance of health and mobility.More Information
Nordic Walking was devised as a off-season training activity for Finnish cross-country skiing athletes during the 1930s to help them retain cardio-vascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance!
At NWEK, we’re able to provide specialized training for those at the top of their game and wanting to stay there – take yourself to the limit with our Ultimate Nordic Circuits and Ultimate Nordic Ski Fit courses!More Information
You can Nordic Walk virtually anywhere – on pavements, in parks, fields and forests – even on the beach!
With ultra light poles that collapse down to less than 64cm (25 inches), Nordic Walking provides an easy, convenient and affordable way to get regular exercise, whether you’re walking the dog, commuting to work, or away on holiday – just pop your poles in your briefcase or suitcase and you’ve an instant “gym” to hand.More Information
An unexpected bonus was our introduction to parts of East Kent that, even after 70+ years living in the area, we were unfamiliar with, not to say unaware of, despite having walked, or cycled, for most of that time.
The “Learn to Nordic Walk” course that we have just completed proved to be a very worthwhile experience for both of us. The technique had appeared deceptively easy but was much more difficult to master than it at first appeared, but that it was a challenge that we both enjoyed.
I have just finished the ‘Learn to Nordic Walk’ course and loved every minute. I worked muscles that I didn’t think I had anymore; you don’t imagine walking with poles would end up with your arms feeling like they’re going to drop off!
Being outside in beautiful countryside, striding (rather than just walking), getting some fantastic exercise and being with a really lovely group of like-minded people was a wonderful experience and made the day a complete success for me.
All I have to say is : thank you, thank you, thank you… starting with the Taster Session I was hooked. The four week course was very enlightening. Thanks to Erika I can walk without worrying about my arthritis or my injured knee.
We were all beginners but Erika made us all feel comfortable, explained things clearly and gave us feedback on our technique (or lack of!) Each walk was slightly more advanced and gave us a chance to practise what she had taught us.
Thanks Erika for a brilliant introduction to Nordic walking. Nordic walking did everything it said on the tin – a full body work out while taking pressure off my knees and joints.
These poles are magic! During the course I have walked through deeply rutted uneven ground, up quite severe hills and for distances that I honestly thought just a month ago that I would never be able to do again.
A really worthwhile experience! The sessions were well planned with a good level of progression.
The instructor was outstanding both in personality and in professionalism. Everything was organized with great care and diligence. She created a friendly atmosphere and by the end there was a good group spirit developing.
